Only one locale ever produced this caliber of chrome-bearing clinochlore (known among collectors as kämmererite), and it’s the Kop Krom Mine in East Anatolia, Turkey. These pieces all came out in the late 70's and early 80's, thus they're quite rare to find on the market nowadays. Pieces of this size and quality are extraordinarily difficult to come by, especially with larger crystals present. Though virtually every piece you'll find from this locale consist of small crystallized patches on matrix, this one is an exception; both sides are almost COMPLETELY covered with crystals and display phenomenally, I can only see one tiny patch where the host rock is visible. Even the bottom is crystallized! The front consists mostly of a smaller druze highlighted with larger crystals up to 7mm. What could be considered the backside has less druze and a lot more large crystals, and is almost more impressive than the front. The color ranges from hot-pink to magenta to mauve in incandescent light, colors that are quite seldomly seen in natural minerals, and add a big visual impact to any display case. This specimen is also in fantastic condition, quite a remarkable thing when considering how much coverage there is. Again, these pieces only pop up once in a while, and I have yet to see another one with the same quality as this.
